The stub ends are fittings that are used in the place of welded flanges where the rotating back up flanges is desired and they are also called as Vanstone flared laps and lap joints. A rotating back up flange seats itself is against the back surface of the stub end when the bolts are added the clamping action of the bolts press the rotating back up flange against the back of the stub end.
